Since the sponge is a natural product, it can vary slightly in shape and size.

If you choose a natural sponge, you can be sure that your vagina will not dry out or that the mucous membranes will not be injured when inserting the sponge. The feeling of inserting a tampon in the last few days of your period is sometimes accompanied by pain as the natural vaginal fluid has been soaked up leaving you with a very dry feeling. This doesn't happen with a sponge!

Before first use:

soak the sponge in vinegar water to neutralize the pH.

Before inserting the sponge, moisten it with water, squeeze out the liquid and insert the sponge into your vagina with 2 fingers. To place the sponge correctly, push it up with your middle finger (just like you would a tampon). It adapts to the shape of the vagina.

However, if you feel the sponge is too big, you can cut it specifically for you. Please do this only after you have tried it once. and you have seen the sponge wet and squeezed.

IMPORTANT: In the case of vaginal infections, you should not use the sponge or use a new sponge after the treatment.

After taking out:

When the sponge is soaked, which can usually be the case after 2-3 hours in the first 48 hours of your bleeding, since ¾ of the blood of a menstrual period is usually excreted during this time, you wash it under cold running water so that the blood does not clot. You can then remove mucus residues that stick to the sponge with warm water. The mucus residue is all natural. It looks transparent and consists of the mucous membrane that is regenerated in the uterus after each ovulation and shedding during your menstrual period.

When the bleeding stops, the sponge can also remain in the vagina for 4-6 hours before you should remove and wash it out. The changing phases are basically similar to the tampon.

For cleaning:

Soak the sponge in vinegar water (1:2) for a few hours (e.g. overnight). If the sponge has become discolored, you can also soak it in a solution of 1/4 cup each of hydrogen peroxide and water. This will also bleach the sponge again.
Otherwise, you can also add a few drops of tea tree oil to a cup of water. Tea tree oil is very effective against bacteria and has been shown to inhibit up to 60 strains of bacteria and eliminate any odour.
After cleaning, the sponge should air dry quickly (do not leave in a damp bath where it can absorb bacteria). You can store it in a cotton bag (e.g. wash mitt or stocking).

On the subject of sustainability:

This Levantine natural sponge of the finest quality is harvested ("picked") off the Levantine coast - hence the name Levantine - in sustainably managed and controlled breeding areas. The roots remain and are not removed so that the sponges can grow back. This enables an intact ecological balance of the marine fauna. The sponges are refined and gently bleached by gentle maceration.
